FROM ART TO FASHION
These are the songs I listened to at art school, in my painting studio and then later in my fashion studio. They take me back to my
beginnings as a creative and they've carried me through along the journey.
beginnings as a creative and they've carried me through along the journey.
Some are energising, some experimental and some thoughtful. All are joyous reminders of being alone in my creative space. I hope you enjoy the journey to reminisce, discover or immerse yourself in the songs that mean so much to me.

Me in my first studio out of art school in 1985. I was listening to Young Marble Giants, The Go Betweens and R.E.M
In 1986 I went on a journey to discover the Australian Outback that took me all the way to Europe! From a WA roadhouse to European backpacker hotels I listened to the Smiths, the Violent Femmes and The Fall.
Fast forward to 1997 and staples on my disc player were The Cruel Sea, The Hummingbirds, and Died Pretty.
2003 saw me transitioning from painting to fashion and in the studio I listened to the likes of Hunters and Collectors, Peter Gabriel and Liz Phair.
It's 2010 and Triple J is playing all the music I love including my old favourites like The Saints, The Magnetic Fields and The Breeders.
These days my studio radio is permanently fixed to Double J because they seem to have the same history as me! From Suzanne Vega to Magazine to The Hoodoo Gurus to Hunters and Collectors, a healthy mix of Australian indie mixed with early punk from England and the US.
As I listen to the playlist I put together it's like a rerun of my life. It's not in chronological order and it's eclectic to say the least but I think that's how I operate.
It's a mix tape I want to share with you.
Enjoy.
