Wool & Wool Felt Care
Any wool that has been felted is untreated wool which means that it is natural and hasn’t been treated with chemicals to make it machine washable.
We all grew up with our mothers taking care of our winter woollies which in those days were all made from untreated wool. Jumpers that shrink when washed improperly were a common occurrence but you soon learnt how to take care of them. (approved wool wash and plenty of water) The very quality that we love about felt is that the untreated wool has shrunk and formed a dense fibre that is soft, light and incredibly warm as well as looking amazing.
Pilling is a common trait of an untreated wool as the fibres, after wearing and rubbing, will come loose and form little balls of wool. Pilling is not a fault of the wool it is just what happens to any quality of natural wool fibre. These can easily be removed with a lint comb or remover. I bought two different tools from the washing department at Woolworths.
It is often the softest and most special quality of wool that needs the most care just like silk we have to be careful not to snag it or rub it excessively. Pilling caused by ordinary wear and tear is easily fixed with a comb.
See videos below of how to remove using two different tools.
