Indian Ocean - There is an isolation to being positioned on the West coast of Australia that breeds creativity. They say Perth is the most isolated city in the world. For Summer 23, Megan used the Indian Ocean as her muse to create a range that draws on the power and the beauty of this magical body of water.
-getting this shot-
This is our hero shot for the campaign. It all started with the skirt!
Megan had a vision of creating a skirt that could capture the wind and the power of the ocean. It took a beautiful skirt, a brave model who could stand on a rock in all of that wind and a paper mache shell. In fact it took a lot more than that when you consider the skill of our photographer and crew but we got the shot!
This huge parachute-like skirt was central to Megan's process for creating the range. It evokes feelings of the sand connecting to the water.
Creating a special piece for the runway or for a shoot can open up thoughts and feelings that inspire all kinds of wonderful creations for the collection
The construction started very organically with Megan draping on the dummy and creating a sculptural shape that cascaded long past full length with a wonderful broad hemline.
The rhythmical shapes of the seamed pieces emulate natural rock formations and she chose a linen cloth called pixel that felt very much like the sand and rocks of the coast.
Once it was all sewn Megan decided that it needed an inky border that was achieved through dip dying the skirt.
There is always an element of risk when dying a piece but Megan was adamant that the skirt needed a dark edge to it.
The result is the most beautiful skirt that feels like it has been dipped in the ocean.
The shell was built by Megan in her studio and was layers of cardboard and plaster until it felt like the remnant of something living.
